Saturday Washout, but Thirds On Course!

Storm Hannah ensured that all Saturday’s games were abandoned without a ball being bowled. Both Marple’s first and second teams will play Alderley Edge next Saturday, the firsts away, and the seconds at Bowden Lane.
The new drainage system installed over the last few years meant that the thirds were able to get under way in the early season round robin T20 competition against Urmston thirds. The visitors totalled a modest 98 for 7, with all the home bowlers doing a fine job. Skipper Greg Marsland had 3 for 22 and Connor Bergin 2 for 23.
In the reply, Marple reached the victory target for the loss of five wickets with two overs remaining. Will Darby made 37, and he was well supported by Lewis Braddock 16, and the returning Callum Jones 13.

Woodley women defeated Marple women’s first eleven by 59 runs at Woodley on Sunday. The home side made 121 for 7 in their 30 overs with Fiona Reeve top scoring with 40 not out. All Marple’s bowlers were amongst the wickets with Rosie Bradshaw the most successful with 2 for 19. Marple struggled against a useful opening attack and limped to 62 all out, only Richmal Miles with 26 offering prolonged resistance. For Woodley, both Alex Wilson and Georgie Morton had 3 for 7 in a promising early season display.
